A Vision for this Music Ministry

On the way back from a trip to Nashville in mid-July ‘05, my wife, Patti, shared a vision that we believe is from God. It is inspired by the message and heart of Isaiah 61:

"The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners...to comfort all who mourn...to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes... They will rebuild...restore...renew..."

We believe that I am called to be a Christian musician who takes the healing power of music to the shelters of the poor, to the prisoners, to the brokenhearted. We believe that also includes the “poor in spirit”, which I am doing on a regular basis as resident worship leader at Glen Eyrie Conference Center (www.gleneyrie.org).   As the Lord opens doors for my music and ministry to reach other avenues in His kingdom, I will praise Him for it. But, particularly, we are pressing in to the Word from the Lord in Isaiah, and praying about how it will unfold. Please join us in prayer!

About Jeff

“The place where God calls you is where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger intersect.”
-Frederick Buechner

God called my family to Colorado Springs the beginning of 2007, to reconnect with the Navigators at their beautiful 1000 acre headquarters.  The Navs were a huge part of my spiritual growth in college, and I worked at their youth camp, Eagle Lake, those 4 summers.  It was amazing, and it’s great to be a part of such a wonderful ministry in a focused capacity, again.  I’m still traveling and leading worship locally and around the country as well.

Before that, we lived in Nashville where I worked as an independent singer/songwriter, and led worship conferences and retreats around the country.  My favorite place to be in Nashville was the Rescue Mission downtown.  Getting to love and encourage those guys on a regular basis with word and song will always stay with me as a great gift.

Prior to Nashville, I was a full time church worker--youth and music/worship ministries. God, music, and youth became the 3 things I wanted to do with my life while at Trinity University in San Antonio (go Tigers!) , and I’m glad to say I’ve been able to work in jobs that center on those 3 things. I believe in the Church, and the great importance of being connected to the Body as we live and (hopefully) serve in this world.

When the Lord brought my wife, Patti, into my life, we felt called to move to Guatemala right after we married in 2000, to teach at a missionary school. In Guatemala God deepen my awareness of His power in creation, His amazing love and patience for people as silly and selfish as me, and His heart for the world. Now back in the states, I continue to want to share what I’m discovering about God. I'm passionate and excited about doing that through music.

Musically, I’m a singer/songwriter who plays keyboard and guitar and has studied music and voice for years. I love and have “done” a lot musically—from chant to black gospel. I recorded my first c.d., Along the Way, in the late 90s. It’s all about God’s constant faithfulness at every stage and mood of life. The proceeds from those sales are going to support mission ministries. My latest c.d., Beyond Imagination, is available as of mid-December ’05. I’m excited about this project—songs about the awe-some depth of our God. Friends in Ft. Worth and San Antonio helped it come together. The sound is acoustic-folk-rock with some ballads–I love singing soulful, upbeat songs as well as ballads.  After my year in Nashville, with some great learning about song writing from mentor Steve Siler and others, I hope to record a 3rd c.d. by early ’08.

For years I have been playing and speaking at churches, retreats, coffee houses, conferences, and conventions. "Gigs" include Young Life, Intervarsity, and Navigator camps, GMA Music in the Rockies, True Love Waits and other youth events, a Christian cruise, teacher and church leader conferences, several singles conferences including the Air Force Singles Conference. Nursing homes and shelters are favorite places for me to go and share God. Singing and rocking out with my son, Ben, and daughter, Genna are the best music moments I have, though.

I want to see our world transformed ever deeper by the reality of our loving God. I hope I can partner with you in that, and let me know how I can be praying for you.
